Renewable Energy

With rising energy prices many home owners are considering generating their own electricity using solar pv.  This is an attractive investment as the current feed-in tarrif for systems under 4kW (retrofitted) stands at 43.3p per kW hour, guaranteed for 25 years.

What is solar pv?

Solar pv (photovoltaics) are panels fitted to your roof or on a ground mount which harness direct sunlight to generate electricity.

The panels are made up of cells containing a semi-conducting material (such as silicon) which generates an electrical current when exposed to direct sunlight.  This DC electricity is fed through a cable to an inverter which transorms it into usuable AC electricity.

You can be paid for the electricity which you generate and do not use, this will give you around a 10% return on your investment.  The feed in tarrif for systems under 4 kW is currently 43.3p per kWh for retro-fits and 37.8p per kWh generated for new builds.

What is solar thermal?

Solar thermal evacuated tubes can be used to heat up to 75% of the hot water in your house.  Evacuated tube solar panels are designed to work in climates such as we have in Scotland and have a life expectancy of 30 years.

To find out more about solar pv or solar thermal, or to arrange for a free home survey, give our surveyor Ian Dewart a call on 07547 941 978 or 01389 470 780 (quoting the reference JSB).

In conjunction with our sister company -BisKit Controls Ltd - we are able to offer a complete controls solution for your renewable systems (pv, heat pumps, wind) and can link it to your existing sytstem.  This will enable you to make the best use of the free electricity generated by your renewable technology.  For more information call Jim on 01786 850 390.
